Blogger Arsen Markaryan, detained on suspicion of insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland, was hiding in the trunk of a car when he was stopped by traffic police officers . This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs .
“Traffic police officers stopped a car with a suspect who hid in the trunk of the vehicle,” the report says.
The man will be taken to investigative authorities for further investigation in the near future, the department added.
The arrest of Markaryan in the capital region became known on August 23. According to the investigation, no later than February 25, Markaryan posted a video with offensive information to an unlimited number of people.
In late January, the Moscow prosecutor’s office announced that experts had found calls for terrorism in Markaryan’s words. The supervisory agency’s employees conducted an investigation and sent the relevant materials to investigative bodies, which were to decide on the criminal prosecution of the blogger. The statement specified that the man “had formed a firm position on the correctness of the ideology and practice of terrorism.”
Markaryan gained notoriety thanks to his scandalous interviews. During them, the blogger repeatedly made misogynistic statements, claiming that women are inferior to men physically and intellectually. Against this background, social media users gave him the nickname “Mizogimli”, which refers to the word “misogyny” and the dwarf named Gimli from the novel “The Lord of the Rings”.
