Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS News that the United States wants Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions.
“If you can enrich [uranium] at any level, then you can essentially enrich it to weapons-grade levels very quickly,” the diplomat said.
He added that Washington wants to ensure that Tehran never acquires nuclear weapons, and President Donald Trump would prefer to resolve the issue peacefully.
“He (Trump. — Gazeta.Ru) wants not only for Iran to not have nuclear weapons, but also for Iran to be a rich, peaceful and prosperous country,” the head of the State Department assured .
On May 11 , the fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States took place in the Omani city of Muscat . Following the talks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic announced that the parties’ positions on the nuclear issue had come closer. Despite this, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at a meeting of the country’s Cabinet that discussions with the United States about abandoning all of the republic’s nuclear facilities were unacceptable .
Earlier, Trump said Iran had “little time” left to reach a deal.
