Several thousand Chinese containers confiscated in the EU

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has announced the seizure of 2,435 shipping containers at the port of Piraeus. According to Politico , the operation is the largest in terms of container confiscation in the history of the European Union .

“The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has confiscated 2,435 shipping containers in the port of Piraeus,” the publication writes.

The containers mainly contained electric bicycles, textile products and footwear.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against six individuals suspected of organizing the illegal circulation of these goods in the EU. According to the agency’s estimates, the budgets of the union’s countries could lose about $800 million in lost customs duties and VAT.

In early September, Reuters reported , citing a source in the White House administration , that US President Donald Trump, in a conversation with European leaders, called for increased economic pressure on China because of its support for Moscow in connection with the military conflict in Ukraine .

Earlier, the head of the US Treasury Department spoke about duties against China for purchasing Russian oil.
